live guest portraits at the optimist: a great gatsby holiday party

When a past (delightful!) bride reaches out about painting guests at her company’s holiday party at The Optimist in West Midtown Atlanta, the answer is an immediate "Yes!"

Corporate events are a thrilling challenge—this was a large gathering with 200 guests and a fast-paced three-hour window. My table was a whirlwind of activity, constant conversation, and "wow" moments as guests watched their portraits come to life. With larger events, it is important to choose an artist who can work quickly and simplify the portraits even further while also being able to interact with guests and answer questions.

The Venue Spotlight: The Optimist The Optimist is one of my favorite Atlanta seafood spots with a sophisticated nautical vibe (and, I must say, incredible cocktails). We were tucked into an intimate space near the oyster bar—cozy enough to feel like a hidden gem, but accessible enough for guests to find us between the live music and speeches.

A Tip for Atlanta Brides: If you’re planning your 2026 or 2027 wedding, don’t overlook Atlanta’s iconic restaurants as venues! Places like The Optimist offer built-in character and world-class catering that makes your planning a breeze. When you’re planning an event, you have a FULL plate! Outsourcing as much as you can to a trusted expert is the way to go.

Whether it’s a black-tie wedding or a Gatsby-themed party, watercolor guest portraits are the ultimate "non-traditional" favor. They provide entertainment in the moment and a cherished keepsake for years to come.
